Moving from LoqSeq to Obsidian

I never really settle on how to do my notes. Recently, I’ve been using LoqSeq - but I’ve decided to go with Obsidian. Both are based on Markdown files as their ‘data’ storage format which makes it relatively easy to make the switch.

I’ve used Microsoft OneNote for a long time, but did not like how the data was stored in a format that I could not access. Then, for a long time, I used Emacs and Org Mode - but Emacs on Windows is not working as frictionless as I would like.

For that reason, I moved to LoqSeq which like Emacs/Org Mode used simple text files as the data format of choice. However, LoqSeq is painfully slow to start up which made me look towards other options. Obsidian was skipped when I made the move from Emacs/OrgMode to LoqSeq because Obsidian is closed source (LogSeq is not) - but trying it out anyway showed that it was fast.

I made a small C# project to convert the few features that were different between LogSeq and Obsidian and that I cared about.

In case you are wondering - I did not make the same effort when I switched from Emacs/OrgMode to LoqSeq.

Syncing

OneNote has very good syncing as it integrates with Microsoft Onedrive. Furthermore, it works really well on phones (Android at least).

With respect to the text based options Emacs/Org Mode, LogSeq and Obsidian my sync was/is done vie Google Drive. In order to sync to Android I use Autosync - File Sync & Backup
